OS Runners ‘caught’ on film

Following on from the success of OS Runners at the ABP Southampton Half Marathon & 10k Corporate Challenge (see Grid article from 10th July), the event organisers got in touch with us to see if we could help promote next year’s event.  On Wednesday 29 July we invited the organisers to come and film our weekly mixed ability session on the grass track behind the Oasis Academy.

Being briefed by the ABP team

Everyone aiming to finish as close to the start line as possible on the out and backs

Viv lead the group of 18 runners through a variety of drills and then onto ‘out and backs’ which are designed to help you pace yourself consistently.  After 4 out and backs (2 minutes each rep) we were ready for the last part of the session which was paarlauf relay.  Paarlauf relay puts pairs of runners of similar ability together and using the 400m grass track the first runner in each pair runs 200m before handing over to their running mate who runs the remaining 200m whilst the first runner jogs back across the field to their original start position to await the hand over from their running mate.

We ended the session with some group led stretches whilst the film crew separately interviewed Viv and Mark about being a Run England group, what activities OS Runners organise and get involved in and how we’ve seen our running group grow over the last couple of years.

The footage is planned to be used to promote Corporate running groups, Run England and the 2016 ABP Southampton Half Marathon & 10k.

Check out the mixed ability page on our website if you would like more information about the sessions, check out our website page.  Upcoming dates for the sessions can be found on our calendar.
