Wasing Park 9/10th June 2018
The first of this year’s 24 hr endurance races that people from OS Runners entered has been completed.
Two teams, OS Hares and OS Tortoises ran the 8km/5mile loop as many times as they could in the 24hr period from 12 noon on the Saturday to 12 noon on the Sunday.
Baz got there early on the Friday to set up camp, with help from Tim, and managed to get a good spot near the changeover and finish line.
The race started with Rachael going first for the Hares and Matt going first for the Tortoises, with Matt being the second person to finish the first lap overall.
The weather was kind with it not being too hot and staying dry for the whole weekend.
The teams kept going overnight and was welcomed with fairy lights along some of the route during the night runs, to light their way through the trees.
Every now and again we had visits and caught glimpses of our other OS Runners, Matt P, James and Vicki as they ran for other teams.
The morning came, and you could see it was taking its toll on everybody with the foam rollers getting a lot of usage.
Just before 12 noon on the Sunday the final laps were started by both teams and at the end the whole team for both the Hares and Tortoises crossed the line together.
Final provisional standings (as they were having trouble with some of the timing chips) are:
Both out of 227 teams
An amazing effort from both teams.
Next up will be Thunder Run – 21st/22nd July
