Today’s handicap was a double/triple challenge. With temperatures peaking at a toasty 31’, 25 runners were faced with the first challenge of the scorching heat and little respite from the breeze. Runners were also challenged to navigating the brand new shiny handicap route. And some runners were additionally challenged as this handicap fell in the aftermath of the 24 hour endurance race, ThunderRun, and the DOMS, blisters and missing toenails that came with that.
To help with navigation, helpfully, Shaun had been out this morning to mark some chalk arrows guiding us around the correct route and not the numerous wrong routes that some of us had attempted earlier.
In preparation for the new route, Jon Sharkey had “jogged” the route both clockwise and anti-clockwise in order to establish those all important course Strava segments.
As this was the first run of this new 5km route, course records were established on this run. The times to beat now are:
- Men’s: 17:00 set by Shaun Brown
- Women’s: 23:34 set by Karen Connell
As this is a new course everyone’s result from today becomes their course PB so hearty congratulations to everyone! Thank you to Jena Leach, Martha James and Jon Sharkey for volunteering as timers today.
