May Handicap, by Naomi Stanley

The sun finally came out at the end of May ready for ‘handicap week’ which will continue to be the last week of the month whilst we work out what the new normal looks like for working/not working at OSHQ.  The bonus of being able to run anywhere at any time is that lots of people who perhaps no longer work with us, can still join in, so shout out to Claire Savage, Jon R-B, Peter Baker and Viv who joined in the handicap fun this month.

Another bonus apart from the weather, was that you can now meet up in larger groups, and even sneak in a cheeky pint afterwards – Baz, Eddie and James!  Joined also by Vicki and Sienna for a quick drink in the sunshine.

The sunshine was certainly shining on Thursday morning at Bournemouth Beach when myself, James, Kevin (who had to dash back to his car for a work meeting – dedication!)  Hopefully with summer now here the council will get memo to open up the ice cream kiosk at 8am – we really could have done with one.  Especially after James’ on a whim 60km half marathon and marathon weekend!  Lockdown really has gone to some people’s heads!  Thanks also to Rob and Zach for being our chief supporters and photographers.

So, the all important results.  Biggest kudos of the month goes to Jo Shannon who smashed her previous PB by nearly a minute!  Well done Jo!

I did do a bit of Strava stalking to get some of these results, so if you want a 5k time to be included in the results, please make sure you tag either myself of Matt P in your Strava activity, or drop us a message/email with a photo of your watch, Garmin Connect activity etc.

Happy June running everyone, bring on highlights like the summer solstice and hopefully a return to parkrun.
