September 2016 handicap

& its back to the old course …

The road/path works on the footpath at the top of Romsey Road have finished, so after 2 months on the beginners course we are back to our normal course, albeit that the bridge works on the Romsey Road Motorway bridge next year may cause another relocation for a few months in 2017.

It was great to see 17 runners out, including first timers Julie Matheson, Jamie Blackman, Jason Bugg, Kat Earls, Shane Poole and Carsten Rosendorf, all running extremely well today.

PB’s were recorded by James Norris who ran 33:45, a considerable improvement from his first run just over a year ago of 39:06 and Karen Connell, who maintained her impressive run of PB’s – having recorded a new best every time she has run the handicap, today she ran 25:46 and is just 11 seconds off the all time ladies record of 25:35.  Karen’s first run was exactly a year ago when she ran 31:25, so for the newbies there is plenty to aim for!

Speaking of records, Baz Newman has taken the record for all time consecutive attendances, and hasn’t missed an event since August last year (a 13 event run), second place currently is Karen who hasn’t missed an event since May this year.

Of course, thanks also to Baz for starting and timing us all and thus enabling the event to go ahead.

The next event is scheduled for Thursday 27th October and I will send out a calendar invite closer to the time.
